NPA kidnaps CAAs; Troops rescue

Members of New People’s Army (NPA) kidnapped two unarmed members of CAFGU Active Auxiliary (CAA) yesterday morning, April 16, 2015 at Brgy Balubad, Atimonan, Quezon. CAA Zaldy Benoza, resident of Brgy Tinandog and CAA William Laude of Brgy Inalig, both of Atimonan, Quezon, were kidnapped by four (4) unidentified armed men with high-powered firearms believed to be members of SPN AMLAY, GU2, SQ-BP, STRPC. An initial investigation disclosed that at 9:00 am yesterday, the duo get food supplies at their former Patrol Base in Brgy Balubad, same municipality. However, said CAAs were held at gunpoint by their captors and were seen tied up inside their former Patrol Base. The 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division headed by MGen Romeo G Gan AFP condemned said acts of kidnapping for it has violated basic Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL). Right after, the 2ID conducted pursuit operation on the said areas in order to monitor and track down NPA rebels. Around 12:50 pm today, April 17, 2015, troops of 85th Infantry Battalion, 2ID encountered more or less 15 NPA rebels with high-powered firearms at the boundary of Brgy Angeles and Brgy Balubad, Atimonan, Quezon wherein CAA Benoza and CAA Laude were rescued from the hands of their captors. Likewise, the troops recovered one (1) US M14 rifle with one (1) magazine, one (1) landmine, six (6) backpacks, and other subversive documents with high intelligence value.
