5 NPAs died, 4 HPFAs recovered by the Gov’t

CAMP GEN MATEO CAPINPIN, Tanay, Rizal – Five (5) members of the New People’s Army believed to be under the Guerilla Unit 3, Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee were killed while four (4) High-powered firearms (HPFAs) were recovered by the government following an encounter at Sitio Bautista, Brgy. Mataas na Pulo, Nasugbu, Batangas. One (1) Squad led by TSgt Menardo C Ibañez PAF of 730th Combat Group, Philippine Air Force under the Operational Control of 202nd Brigade, 2ID were fired upon by undetermined number of fully armed NPAs while patrolling on the said area. Along with the HPFAs that were recovered by the said troops composed of two (2) M14, one (1) M16 and one (1) Carbine were five (5) back packs. Right after the encounter, a Quick Reaction Team was deployed in the said area while wounded civilians were immediately brought to the Apacible Memorial Hospital, Nasugbu, Batangas by the Squad of Airman John Norberto Mata. A certain Joseph Bendicio, male, 14 years old was wounded at the big toe of his right foot, and Edwin Munoz Coronel, male, 50 years old, had a grazed forehead. On the other hand, MGen Romeo G Gan AFP, Commander, 2ID immediately ordered the pursuit against the remaining members of the group. Further, he said that the neutralization of the armed group is yet another blow to the NPA’s attempt to show that they are active in the Batangas area. Brgy Mataas na Pulo was a former stronghold of the NPA. “The presence of the armed group was a bid to re-influence their former mass base. The incident showed that they can no longer deceive the populace. And ironically, it was their former supporters who actually tipped of the state forces,” he added.
