Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division prepared and alerted two Battalions who will serve as Disaster Response Unit (DRU) due to the “Typhoon Chedeng” which entered in the Philippine Area of Responsibility yesterday.
The two Battalions are equipped with mobility requirements, medical teams and Disaster Relief and Rescue Operations (DRRO) equipment such as life rings, utility ropes, rubber boat, life jackets, chain saw, and floating spine boards among others.

While undergoing Battalion Retraining program the 16IB momentarily may shift its mission which will aid in the possible conduct of Search, Rescue and Retrieval (SRR) Operations.
During the briefing which was attended by the G-Staff, other Officers and men of 2ID, COL ROLANDO C MANALO GSC (INF) PA, Chief of Staff, 2ID alerted everyone to be always ready as the Command has shifted at this point of time its focus from Military Operations to Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief Operations. Likewise, he stressed that all Jungle Fighters must maintain its efficacy in extending help to our fellow countrymen.
Moreover, in view of the potential effects of said typhoon, red alert status was declared by MGEN ROMEO G GAN AFP, Commander, 2ID effective 011200H April 2015. He also directed the subordinate Brigades and Battalions to establish coordination with Regional DRRMC, LGU and other partner agencies to enhance our response capability.
